Eleven permanent hires at Navigazione Laghi. The government-run Navigazione Laghi operator for Lakes Maggiore, Garda and Como has announced a public competition, by examination, for 11 general operators in the navigating sector. Six posts are assigned to the Lake Como operating management, based in Como; five to the Lake Maggiore one, based in Arona. The call (inPA code 17/2026_DE, protocol C167 of September 25, 2026) is published on the operator's official website and on the inPA portal: applications must be submitted by November 5, 2026.

A middle-school diploma is all it takes to apply: a higher qualification gives no extra points, so middle-school graduates compete on equal terms with high-school and university graduates. The specific requirement is the ability to swim and row, checked with a dedicated test, plus physical fitness for the job. No experience is required. Two quotas apply to the 11 posts: three for Armed Forces volunteers and one for volunteers who completed universal civil service without demerit. A middle-school diploma is enough, but you must be able to swim and row: eleven permanent hires, six based in Como, applications by November 5.

The selection consists of four tests: a preliminary swimming and rowing fitness test, a multiple-choice written test, a practical test and an oral exam, each to be passed with at least 18/30. Winners receive a permanent full-time employment offer, with a six-month probation period. Pay follows the autoferrotranvieri national contract, with a gross annual salary of about 21,000 euros, as reconstructed by TiConsiglio. Applications are submitted exclusively online through the inPA portal, with SPID, CIE, CNS or eIDAS credentials: there is no application fee.

Who the government operator is

The Gestione Governativa Navigazione Laghi is a government body established by Law 614 of 1957, providing scheduled public water transport on Italy's three largest lakes. Its central management is based in Milan and coordinates three operating managements: Arona for Lake Maggiore, Desenzano del Garda for Lake Garda and Como for the lake of the same name. In peak months the company employs up to 650 people, with a fleet of 99 vessels including boats, motor vessels, ferries, hydrofoils and catamarans, carrying over 11 million passengers and 700,000 vehicles a year. General navigating operators work aboard the fleet's vessels and at the lakes' landing stages, supporting onboard staff in the public transport of passengers and vehicles, dealing with commuters, students and tourists.
