No three-way wedding on the shores of the Lario. Confindustria Como has interrupted the process begun with Confindustria Lecco e Sondrio to create a single interprovincial association. The Como association announced it in an official note, reported by La Spola: after the exploratory period set up to verify, on the mandate of the General Council, whether the conditions needed to realize the project existed, the Presidency Council acknowledged that those conditions do not exist.
The process had been launched exactly a year ago. On October 10, 2025, at the joint general assembly at Lariofiere in Erba, presidents Gianluca Brenna (Confindustria Como) and Marco Campanari (Confindustria Lecco e Sondrio) announced the start of the merger project, with the backing of national Confindustria president Emanuele Orsini. The stated goal was ambitious: by spring 2027 a single new territorial association for Como, Lecco and Sondrio. As Campanari told the assembly, as reported by Il Diario del Lavoro: in spring 2027 a new entity will be born, a new single Confindustria territorial association for Como, Lecco and Sondrio.
The numbers involved explained the project's ambition. The two associations together count around 700 member companies and represent three provinces generating, in Campanari's words as reported by Il Diario del Lavoro, more or less 35 billion in added value: a significant part of Lombardy and of the country.
The Presidency Council's no
The decision came after in-depth work and discussion on the organizational, associative and strategic aspects of the proposed integration between the two associations. After the exploratory period, the Presidency Council acknowledged that the conditions needed to realize the project do not exist: the single Confindustria of Como, Lecco and Sondrio will not happen.
The decision came after in-depth work and discussion on the organizational, associative and strategic aspects of the proposed integration between the two associations. In the note, the Como association nevertheless stresses that the completed process was an important opportunity for dialogue and reflection on the future of industrial representation, helping to bring new development opportunities for the territory into focus for the benefit of member companies. And it concludes: we will continue on the path of collaboration anyway.
As Il Giorno recalls, Lecco and Sondrio remain associated with each other: the three-way wedding stops before the vows, which under the plans should have been exchanged by spring 2027. The engagement had been sealed in October 2025, when Campanari announced that by the end of 2026 the extraordinary assemblies of the two associations would approve the text of the merger project. A year later, the conditions are no longer there.
