A positive result for operation Lario Sicuro 2026. The Lecco provincial police, as announced on October 7, successfully completed the summer lake-monitoring campaign: 17 patrol services carried out on the stretch between Abbadia Lariana and Lierna, aimed at monitoring nautical traffic, preventing dangerous behaviour and enforcing the rules.

The activity focused on the peak season, when the Lecco branch and the smaller lakes fill with pleasure boaters, sports enthusiasts and swimmers. In these weeks, the Province explains, ensuring a safe coexistence between navigation, water sports and bathing becomes central, on waters visited by thousands of people every year.

The operation paved the way for joining the 2026 Bollino Blu (Blue Sticker) campaign, consolidating cooperation between the Lecco provincial police and the Coast Guard for safer, more responsible navigation. The Coast Guard entrusted the provincial police with issuing Blue Stickers to boats passing the checks required by law: verifications cover the regularity of onboard documentation, possession of licences, presence of safety equipment and efficiency of rescue gear. The sticker certifies that the check took place and serves as a tool of prevention and promotion of nautical safety culture.

The local picture fits into the Coast Guard's Mare e Laghi Sicuri 2026 operation, whose data were presented at the Genoa International Boat Show: from June 16 to September 20, more than 3,000 men and women, 450 naval units and 19 aircraft and helicopters carried out over 296,000 checks along Italy's 8,000 kilometres of coastline and on lakes Como, Garda and Maggiore, a 24 percent increase over 2025. Administrative fines remained broadly stable at 11,364 and the incidence of irregularities fell from 5 to under 4 percent. In recreational boating, fines dropped 16 percent (from 3,827 to 3,212) and assisted or rescued units 21 percent (from 435 to 343); more than 5,000 blue stickers were issued over the summer. Overall, 1,370 people were rescued. On lakes Garda, Como and Maggiore the Coast Guard coordinated or conducted 244 rescue operations, assisting 163 recreational units and 655 people, with 2,580 recreational-boating checks, 517 administrative offences recorded and 17 crime reports.

The synergy between agencies

Joining the campaign, the Province of Lecco stresses, confirms the consolidated cooperation between the provincial police, the Coast Guard and the other bodies engaged in monitoring and rescue on the Lario: a synergy that over the years has enabled coordinated interventions and an increasingly qualified presence protecting citizens and visitors. The activity carried out, the October 7 statement concludes, testifies to the importance of a constant presence on the lake during the peak tourist and boating season.
