The Lecco area will have its own Innovation and Development Zone dedicated to health, rehabilitation and longevity. ZIS HRL, Healthcare, Rehabilitation and Longevity, led by the association La Nostra Famiglia, has been admitted to the second phase of the pathway promoted by Regione Lombardia and was presented on Friday 16 October at the Lecco campus of Politecnico di Milano, in the presence of the regional economic development assessor Guido Guidesi.

HRL is the second project to enter phase 2, the stage leading to the concrete creation of the ecosystem, after the ZIS dedicated to mechatronics in the Bergamo area. The Innovation and Development Zones are the industrial policy tool with which the Region networks businesses, research, training, healthcare and finance, starting from the specialisations already present in each territory.

The project network

Speakers at the presentation included the delegated prorector of the Lecco campus Marco Tarabini, the president of the association La Nostra Famiglia Luisa Minoli, the clinical director of the Villa Beretta Rehabilitation Centre Franco Molteni, the president of Confindustria Lecco e Sondrio Marco Campanari, the president of Confcommercio Lecco Fabio Dadati and the president of Univerlecco Vico Valassi. The partnership includes IRCCS Eugenio Medea, Politecnico di Milano with its Lecco campus, Villa Beretta, Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi, ASST di Lecco, Univerlecco, the Province of Lecco, Confindustria and Confcommercio and the companies Elemaster, DIGITEC, Permedica, OPIQUAD and Gf4biz.

L’ammissione alla seconda fase della ZIS HRL conferma la solidità del Sistema Lecco in cui Univerlecco ha sempre creduto.

A distributed Living Lab, from prototype to market

The operating model is a distributed Living Lab, networking laboratories, rehabilitation centres, healthcare facilities and real settings of use. The project starts from Lecco's specialisation in engineering applied to rehabilitation and sport, in biomechanics and in clinical research, and works on prevention and health protection, improvement of rehabilitation pathways, active ageing and the maintenance of autonomy. The masterplan provides a hub for research, experimentation and clinical validation, linked to four areas: Industrial and Technological, Data Driven and Policies, Advanced Wellness and Tourism, Finance and Scaling.

Companies will be able to access research infrastructure and support services, from skills in movement analysis, robotics and sensor systems to experimentation in real settings, with an infrastructure to integrate and analyse clinical and functional data in a secure environment, also in support of artificial intelligence models. Training, both university and continuing, will link engineering and healthcare.

Admission to phase two now starts the definition of the definitive strategic plan, of the investments and of the services to be activated. Under the regional call, approval of the plan is the condition for the formal recognition of the ZIS and for access to implementation contributions: that is where the Lecco project will prove its concreteness.
