The headquarters of the new Polizia Stradale detachment was inaugurated on Friday 16 October at Sala Comacina, in the province of Como. The post is permanent and operates all year along state road 340 Regina, the route that links the city of Como with the tourist towns of the lake's western shore and continues to the state border with Switzerland.

Attending the ceremony were the deputy prime minister and minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, the interior minister Matteo Piantedosi and the undersecretary for the Interior Nicola Molteni. Also present were the chief of police Vittorio Pisani, the prefect of Como Corrado Conforto Galli, the Como police commissioner Filippo Ferri, the director of the Polizia Stradale service Santo Puccia and the head of the Lombardy Polizia Stradale district Barbara Barra.

From a summer post to a permanent detachment

The detachment will provide road patrols, traffic management and technical accident surveys on its stretch of the Regina. The road carries an intense flow of vehicles throughout the year, with a marked share of commercial traffic and a further increase in the summer season, among residents, tourists and professional drivers.

In past years, a mobile Polizia Stradale post at Tremezzina operated only in the summer months to handle the busiest period. The presence now becomes permanent: the detachment, which reports to the Lombardy Polizia Stradale district, Como section, was established by a decree of the chief of police dated 16 February 2026.

The Via degli Ulivi headquarters and its thirteen officers

The unit is based in a building owned by the municipality of Sala Comacina, in Via degli Ulivi. The building underwent a thorough renovation that remodelled its spaces, making them safe and comfortable for the thirteen officers serving at the detachment.

Rafforziamo in modo incisivo la presenza delle Forze dell’ordine in un territorio strategico per il turismo e per l’economia lombarda.

Matteo Piantedosi, minister of the Interior

In his remarks, the interior minister linked the new facility to the choice of making police posts more widespread and prevention and control activities more effective, thanking the mayor and the municipal administration for the institutional cooperation that made the headquarters possible. Police chief Pisani recalled that the Polizia Stradale has performed its duties for 79 years and that the speciality has the highest number of officers fallen in service among the administration's sectors. Prefect Conforto Galli focused on road accidents, calling for maximum and constant commitment by the traffic police.

For those who drive the Regina every day, the change is concrete: patrols, traffic management and accident surveys no longer depend on the summer mobile post alone, but on a stable detachment in the heart of the western shore, created to respond adequately and constantly to traffic needs throughout the year.
