Sixteen private homes across the provinces of Lecco and Como will be able to remove their architectural barriers with a contribution from Regione Lombardia. The measure is set out in deliberation 6943 of 19 October 2026, with which the regional government, on the proposal of housing councillor Paolo Franco, allocated a further 1,103,118 euros to fund 263 interventions in private buildings in every Lombard province.

For the lake territory the resources are split between the two provincial capitals' territories. The province of Lecco was assigned 38,467 euros for nine interventions; the province of Como 30,180 euros for seven interventions. The funds go to the municipalities that reported their 2026 needs to the Region: the municipalities themselves will check the eligibility of applications and pay the contributions to residents.

In the Lecco area the interventions concern nine municipalities. The largest share goes to Cassago Brianza, 6,309.87 euros. Above four thousand euros are also Cremella, with 4,304.21 euros, and Lomagna, which receives 4,136.71 euros. Paderno d'Adda receives 4,036.71 euros, while for Valmadrera the figure is 3,986.71 euros. The list closes with Brivio and Varenna, 3,933.46 euros for each of the two municipalities, Merate with 3,913.96 euros and Cortenova, which receives 3,912.71 euros. Two of the nine municipalities, Varenna and Valmadrera, face the lake; for the Como province the Region published the provincial total, without the municipal breakdown in this tranche.

How the contribution works

The measure funds the adaptations needed to overcome architectural barriers, not home improvements: applications may be submitted by people with a permanent disability, or by whoever holds their guardianship, in the municipality where the home of residence is located. One contribution may be requested for works inside the home and one for external works and lifting mechanisms. The maximum is 7,000 euros per intervention; for expenses up to 2,500 euros the contribution covers 100 per cent of the eligible cost.

The application must be submitted before work begins. After submission, the municipality carries out checks to verify that the barrier exists and that the works have not already been carried out or started. The contribution is paid once the works are completed, on presentation of invoices made out to the beneficiary. The measure is funded with contributions transferred by the State, topped up from the regional budget for buildings built after 1989.

The 2027 round is already open

For those who still need to plan works, the collection of applications for the 2027 needs round is already open: requests are submitted to one's own municipality by 1 March 2027, always before the interventions begin. According to the Region, since 2024 over 13 million euros have been made available for private buildings, supporting 3,347 Lombard families.
